Coosa River
The Coosa River begins in downtown Rome and is
formed by the convergence of the Etowah and Oostanaula Rivers. It then
flows onward through western Gerogia and is the main tributary to Lake
Weiss. The Coosa is a "Powerhouse" striper fishery with one of
the few populations of Striped Bass that naturally reproduce in our state.
It has large numbers of small stripers. I have yet to catch one over
20lbs.. At times in the Spring, It is possible to catch 5-10lb. stripers
until your arms fall off. I do not regard it as a
trophy fishery but it is a striper situation still in its infancy. I fish
the Coosa River only in the Spring and early Summer. As with Lake Nottely,
and the distance and time involved, my rates are higher than normal for
the Coosa River
